Neuromuscular & physical therapy — trained directly under him for 3 years, then brought him to Scotland to teach a seminar, the only time he did so in his career.
Meet Guy
I know what it's like to be the patient.
I'm Guy Murray. I've been treating back pain, sports injuries and long-standing pain in Glasgow since 2008. Before that, I spent years on the other side of the couch.
Why I do this
I got into this work because of my own back. A powerlifting injury left me with back pain for years, and racing downhill mountain bikes added more damage on top, including a fractured pelvis.
I went to more therapists than I can count and got nowhere. Most treated the spot that hurt and sent me on my way. It came back every time.
That frustration is what got me interested in why pain happens, not just where. It's shaped how I've worked ever since.
Who I help most
I treat everyone, from office workers to world champions, aged 3 months to over 90. But the patients I find most rewarding are the ones who've been everywhere and tried everything. If you've had a problem for years and you're starting to think nothing will help, I'd like to see you. I've been there.
How I work
Pain usually shows up where your body is under the most stress, and that stress often comes from somewhere else. So I don't just treat where it hurts. I find out why it started, treat the areas feeding into it, and when the time is right, give you a rehab plan to make it less likely to come back.
Outside the clinic
I still train: gym work and boxing training for fitness. When I'm not training, I'm usually on a bike, out hill walking or camping. I know what it means to want your body back, because I use mine.
Training and qualifications
Higher Diploma in Neuromuscular and Physical Therapy, and a BOst (Hons) in Osteopathy. I practise independently. My training continues: every technique I use traces back to the people who defined it.
